Kratom is a Southeast Asian tree whose leaves are used in unregulated supplements marketed for mood, energy, and pain relief, but it poses serious health risks, especially for kids and teens. It can act as a stimulant or opioid depending on the dose, leading to addiction, withdrawal symptoms, and severe side effects like liver damage, seizures, and even death. Kratom products, often sold in appealing forms, may contain harmful substances and are not FDA-regulated, making them unsafe. Parents should educate their children about the dangers of kratom, monitor purchases, and seek medical help if their child is using it.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
