This CDC guide helps parents and caregivers support teens in recognizing and managing their emotions. It explains how to observe emotional cues, pause before reacting, and approach conversations calmly. Guidance emphasizes listening without judgment, acknowledging feelings, and allowing teens to participate in problem-solving. The included four-page activity worksheet encourages parents to reflect on their teen’s emotional expressions, their own reactions, and strategies for responding thoughtfully. The worksheet can be printed for handwritten responses or completed using its fillable PDF fields.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
