The teenage brain undergoes significant development, with the prefrontal cortex—responsible for decision-making and planning—maturing last, often into the mid-to-late 20s. Adolescence is marked by increased focus on peer relationships and a greater tendency to take risks, both positive and negative. The teen brain is highly adaptable and can be strengthened through challenging activities, but it also responds differently to stress, increasing vulnerability to anxiety and depression. Most teens do not get enough sleep due to changes in melatonin, which can affect attention and impulse control. Despite these challenges, the teen brain is resilient, and most adolescents grow into healthy adults.
