This CDC resource offers six tips for using medicines to help quit smoking. It explains the importance of selecting the appropriate dose, using medicines for the recommended length of time, and following instructions for proper use. It describes how combining a nicotine patch with a short-acting nicotine replacement product can help manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It also discusses when certain medicines may be started before a planned quit date. Healthcare providers and the free 1-800-QUIT-NOW quitline are identified as sources of guidance and coaching to support quitting.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
