Product Details
This study compared a culturally tailored form of cognitive behavioral therapy with usual treatment for 114 Latinx adolescents who had recently experienced a suicidal crisis. The therapy taught coping skills while also addressing identity, parenting, family communication, and cultural experiences. After six months, adolescents receiving the specialized therapy had fewer suicide attempts, suicide-related emergency visits, and episodes of self-injury than those receiving usual care. Similar short-term results were found among LGBTQ+ participants. The findings are promising, but the modest sample size, pandemic-related disruptions, and delivery through one regional health system limit how broadly the results can be applied.
