Cychlorphine is an emerging synthetic opioid reported to be up to ten times more potent than fentanyl and associated with at least 55 deaths nationwide as of April 30, 2026. Tennessee was among the most affected states, with at least 41 overdose deaths linked to cychlorphine between July 2025 and February 2026. It may be found alone or mixed with fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, bromazolam, and other substances, and it is not detected by fentanyl test strips or routine hospital opioid screenings. The notice advises calling 911 during a suspected overdose and administering additional naloxone doses when necessary.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
