This training manual provides comprehensive guidance for mental health professionals, crime victim assistance providers, and other responders to effectively support victims, survivors, and communities affected by mass violence and terrorism. It outlines human responses to trauma, immediate and long-term mental health interventions, organizational preparation, and stress management strategies for responders. The manual emphasizes cultural competence, community outreach, and collaboration with key agencies during crisis response. It also includes a detailed training course outline, resources, and recommendations for in-service training to enhance preparedness and recovery efforts. The goal is to equip responders with the tools to address the psychological and emotional needs of affected individuals and communities while managing their own stress.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
