This article explores the potential classification of Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) as an addiction or mental disorder, as outlined in the DSM-5-TR and recognized by the World Health Organization in the ICD-11. It highlights the symptoms of IGD, such as preoccupation with gaming and negative impacts on daily life, and notes that only a small percentage of gamers may qualify for a diagnosis. Research on IGD is ongoing, with mixed findings on its prevalence and impact, especially during the COVID pandemic. The article encourages those concerned about gaming behaviors to consult healthcare professionals.
