Impulsivity and sexual compulsivity - a comparison of untreated individuals with CSBD, individuals undergoing long-term treatment for CSBD, and a healthy control group

A study of 77 men compared untreated individuals with compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD), individuals receiving long-term treatment, and healthy controls. Both CSBD groups reported greater sexual compulsivity, problematic pornography use, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms than the control group. Untreated participants demonstrated more risk-taking and greater difficulty delaying gratification than those receiving treatment, suggesting higher impulsivity. Sexual compulsivity and delay discounting strongly predicted sex-addiction scores, while self-reported sexual risk-taking did not differ significantly among the groups. The findings suggest that treatment may reduce certain impulsive behaviors, although the small, all-male sample and cross-sectional design limit the conclusions.
