This article provides guidance for families supporting loved ones with hoarding disorder (HD). It emphasizes avoiding unwelcomed cleanouts and reducing family accommodation, as these can worsen the problem. Strategies like motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and improved communication are recommended to encourage positive change. Professional treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), skills training, group therapy, and medication, are also discussed as effective approaches to managing HD.
