CDC researchers analyzed emergency department visits for suspected suicide attempts in the United States from 2021 through 2025 using national syndromic surveillance data. Adolescents ages 12–17 consistently had the higheClick HERE to DOWNLOAD for FREEst proportion of these visits, particularly females, although their rate declined substantially compared with 2021. Overall visit proportions decreased 7% by 2025, while increases occurred among adults ages 26 and older, especially those ages 55–64 and 65 or older. The findings demonstrate that suspected suicide attempts remain a significant concern across age groups despite improvements among adolescents and females. Continued monitoring and comprehensive prevention strategies addressing risk factors, protective factors, crisis response, and support following an attempt are recommended.
