A Pocket Guide for Alcohol Screening and Brief Intervention for Youth provides health professionals with a quick reference for identifying and addressing alcohol use among youth ages 9–18. It includes age-specific screening questions about personal drinking and friends’ alcohol use, along with guidance for assessing risk. Four steps outline screening, preventive guidance or risk assessment, brief intervention, and follow-up support. Additional information explains standard drinks, youth binge drinking, confidentiality, and referral options. The pamphlet also summarizes motivational interviewing principles to support conversations about changing drinking behavior. Condensed from NIAAA’s full practitioner’s guide, it is intended for professional use during health care visits.
