This CDC guide helps parents and caregivers strengthen communication with toddlers and preschoolers. It explains active listening, nonverbal communication, and responding to children’s feelings. Examples show how joining children’s play and describing their actions can support connection, attention, and language development. Reflection questions encourage parents to consider their child’s communication preferences and their own listening habits.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
