Anger Iceberg uses the image of an iceberg to show how visible anger can be connected to less obvious feelings, such as fear, embarrassment, sadness, disappointment, or exhaustion. It is suitable for school-age children, approximately ages 6 and up, as well as teens and adults, with adult guidance recommended for younger children. For ages 6–9, a parent or teacher can explain the image using familiar feelings such as sad, scared, hurt, or frustrated and invite the child to point to what they feel. For ages 10–12, examples such as being left out of a game or struggling with schoolwork can encourage discussion about rejection, embarrassment, worry, or disappointment. Teens and adults can use it for journaling, counseling, or group discussions to explore feelings connected to an upsetting experience and consider helpful responses. Teachers, counselors, and caregivers can introduce it after someone has calmed down, using gentle questions to encourage understanding without assuming what the person feels.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
