The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) was developed in 1990 to monitor health risk behaviors among youth and adults in the U.S. These behaviors include demographics, health conditions, substance use, and experiences like bullying and violence. The YRBSS collects data biennially from 9th-12th grade students through national, state, and local surveys. The 2023 survey achieved a 35.4% overall response rate, with data edited for validity and logical consistency. Results are used to assess health behavior trends, co-occurrence, and progress toward health objectives.
This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee,
Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
