Many health insurance plans are required by federal and state laws to cover treatment for mental health and substance use disorder just as they would for physical health conditions.
This is called health insurance "parity."
That means health plan deductibles, co-pays and prior authorization processes should be the same.
Many people are unaware that they can appeal, even challenge, their health plan's decision to deny or reduce care for mental health or addiction treatment.
TAADAS offers training webinars that teach patients and providers their rights to insurance coverage and how to appeal denied claims for mental health/addiction care.
