In November 2001, SAMHSA supported a meeting of an expert panel on seminary education that recommended the development of a set of core competencies to help addicted individuals and their families. This report details the content of a meeting to develop those competencies as well as the resulting core competencies.

  Pathways to Prevention: Guiding Youth to Wise Decisions. A Prevention Guide for Youth Leaders in Faith Communities book
This unique 100-page guide provides leaders of congregational youth programs with a comprehensive, step-by-step handbook to help kids use the positive influence of religion as a catalyst in making the choice to reject illicit drugs. Grounded in behavior-based research, the guide incorporates input from experts throughout the religious community. With activities suited for youth age 9-18, "Pathways to Prevention" helps promote a drug-free lifestyle and provides a forum for discussion about the consequences of drug use. Materials help encourage youth to think about alternatives to drugs and to discover that drug use is not the norm. The activities provide an opportunity for facilitators to tie religious values to drug prevention. The guide also offers a variety of drug prevention resources for congregations.
  Successful Strategies for Recruiting Training and Utilizing Volunteers: A Guide for Faith- and Community-Based Service Providers book
Volunteers are critical to a health community. Volunteers can enhance an organization’s general profile—attracting more volunteers, clients, and funds. Chapters examine planning and recruiting, training, managing, and evaluating volunteers. The booklet also covers background checks for volunteers.
